When it comes to supporting communities and charitable causes, Wash Rite continues to go above and beyond. For the third consecutive year, Wash Rite is proud to sponsor a team in the iconic Pork Pie Charity Run, a beloved event that not only celebrates the giving spirit and adventure but also raises funds for a vital children’s charity — KidsCan.
In 2025, Wash Rite once again stepped up to the plate, providing sponsorship, resources, and nationwide encouragement to one of the spirited teams taking part in the epic road trip from the top of the North Island to the very bottom of the South. The Pork Pie Charity Run is a unique and heartwarming event that Wash Rite is thrilled to be associated with — and this year’s event has been one of the best yet.
What is the Pork Pie Charity Run?
For those unfamiliar, the Pork Pie Charity Run is one of the most unique fundraising events, inspired by the cult classic film Goodbye Pork Pie. Every two years, teams from across the country pile into classic or modern Mini Coopers and embark on a week-long journey from Kaitaia to Invercargill.
Along the way, they stop at local landmarks, schools, and towns, raising awareness and much-needed funds for KidsCan — a charity dedicated to supporting disadvantaged children with essentials like food, jackets, shoes, and health products.
Since its inception in 2009, the Pork Pie Charity Run has grown in popularity and significance, raising over $3.5 millionfor KidsCan. The event is not just a fundraiser — it’s a rolling celebration of community, generosity, and Kiwi culture, and it attracts teams from every corner of the country, all united by a shared goal: making life a little brighter for children in need.
Why Wash Rite Supports the Pork Pie Charity Run
At Wash Rite, community is at the heart of everything we do. As the southern hemispheres largest and most trusted exterior cleaning brand, our teams live and work in the same neighbourhoods we service. Giving back to those communities is not just a responsibility — it’s a privilege.
The Pork Pie Charity Run holds a special place in our hearts because it perfectly embodies the Kiwi values of mateship, generosity, and determination. It’s a light-hearted adventure with a serious mission, and we believe in supporting organisations and initiatives that have a genuine, lasting impact on the lives of others.
KidsCan’s mission to help New Zealand children living in hardship is one Wash Rite proudly stands behind. No child should have to go to school hungry, without warm clothing, or basic health necessities. By supporting a team in this iconic event, we’re able to contribute to a cause that aligns closely with our own values of community care, fairness, and opportunity for all.
The 2025 Wash Rite-Sponsored Team
This year, we had the pleasure of backing the brilliant and enthusiastic team “Mini Clean Machines”, a duo of adventurous Wash Rite franchise owners who took on the challenge with their iconic bright-yellow Mini Cooper.
The Mini Bonodleys team, made up of Matt Woodley and Nathan Bonney, two lads from the franchise industry, brought energy, humour, and a huge heart to this year’s event. Their mini was decked out in Wash Rite branding as well as other sponsors branding and KidsCan colours, turning heads and raising awareness everywhere they went.
As they travelled from Kaitaia to Invercargill, Sarah and Dan documented their journey through social media, sharing hilarious updates, heartfelt moments, and encounters with generous Kiwis along the way. Their efforts not only raised significant funds but also amplified the message of KidsCan’s work and the importance of community support.
The Impact of the 2025 Run
The 2025 Pork Pie Charity Run was a resounding success, raising over $620,000 for KidsCan — a record-breaking total for the event. The team alone contributed more than $20,000 to this total, a remarkable effort that Wash Rite is incredibly proud to have supported.
The funds raised will directly go towards providing school breakfasts, lunch packs, warm jackets, and essential health items for thousands of children in need. These contributions make a tangible difference, giving kids the confidence, energy, and opportunity to thrive at school and beyond.
For Sarah and Dan, the experience was life-changing.
“We’ll never forget the smiles on the kids’ faces when we stopped by schools, and how total strangers would donate or offer to help out,” said Sarah. “It made us so proud to wear the Wash Rite logo and to be part of something so meaningful.”
A Growing Tradition for Wash Rite
This marks the third consecutive Pork Pie Charity Run that Wash Rite has supported, and it’s quickly becoming one of our favourite company traditions. Each year, the event grows in scale, enthusiasm, and community spirit — and we’re already looking forward to 2027.
Troy Hillard, Managing Director of Wash Rite, summed it up best:
“Supporting the Pork Pie Charity Run is one of the highlights of our year. It’s fun, it’s meaningful, and it perfectly represents what Wash Rite stands for — good people, supporting good causes, in the communities where we live and work. We’ll be back in 2027 without a doubt.”
Looking Ahead
Wash Rite plans to continue its involvement in the Pork Pie Charity Run for years to come, with hopes of expanding our participation to multiple teams in future events. Our goal is not only to raise even more money for KidsCan but to involve more franchisees, customers, and communities in this wonderful initiative.
We encourage other businesses — big and small — to consider getting involved in this one-of-a-kind event. Whether it’s sponsoring a team, donating to a fundraising page, or cheering the drivers along as they pass through your town, every little bit helps.
As a proudly New Zealand-owned business, Wash Rite believes in the power of community and the importance of giving back. The Pork Pie Charity Run is the perfect opportunity to do just that, while having a bit of fun on the open road.
Final Thoughts
For Wash Rite, supporting the 2025 Pork Pie Charity Run wasn’t just about branding or marketing — it was about making a difference. By standing alongside KidsCan and contributing to the wellbeing of New Zealand’s children, we’re investing in a better, fairer future for the communities we serve.
We’re immensely proud of Sarah, Dan, and the Mini Clean Machines team, and grateful to everyone in our network who donated, cheered them on, or followed their incredible journey from Kaitaia to Invercargill.
Here’s to more Minis, more road trips, and more lives changed in 2027 and beyond!
